Celebrating World Landscape Architecture Month 2020

One of the bright sides of the lockdown is that it may be giving us a renewed appreciation of open spaces as we are forced to stay indoors. Now more than ever, we are realizing how essential it is to have access to these spaces.

One of the bright sides of the lockdown is that it may be giving us a renewed appreciation of open spaces as we are forced to stay indoors. Now more than ever, we are realizing how essential it is to have access to these spaces.

Every April, landscape architects from around the globe join forces to celebrate the art of landscape architecture, and to appreciate designed public and private open spaces. Fortunately, this year, the entire globe must be joining them to express how grateful we all are for their work.

ASLA’s Life Grows Here Initiative

Despite the present global challenge of COVID-19 spread, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is launching its World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM) campaign – Life Grows Here.

This year, ASLA’s virtual initiative aims at depicting all the behaviors in which life grows in the spaces created by landscape architects. The campaign shows the importance of what landscape architects do, and how their work serves their urban settings. It also reflects on how communities have established deep connections with these spaces.

Bringing Communities Together Virtually for a Cause

Thanks to their digitized efforts, we’re all invited to join ASLA’s Student & Professional Chapters in taking over our social media feeds on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to highlight landscape architect designed spaces from around the world using the hashtags #WLAM2020 and #LifeGrowsHere.

The organization will additionally shed light on the different aspects of landscape architecture and ASLA projects through the month, raising important issues such as professional licensure, parks legislation, as well as educational and career opportunities.

2. Share a Video

  • Find a relatively quiet space.
  • Using a camera or your cell phone, record a one-minute video about why you do what you do and how landscape architecture affects people’s lives. Make it personal!
  • Share it on social media with the hashtags #WLAM2020 and #LifeGrowsHere, and be sure to tag @NationalASLA. You can also email your content to info@asla.org if you don’t have social media access.
