Q: What made you decide to become a Project Estimator?

A: The construction industry is very interesting to me. I am attracted to the merge of disciplines and the outcome it provides. I have a background in Project Coordination, and have went from helping create ideas to making buildings come to life. I also worked as a framer and have seen how it all goes over there, so I can easily put myself in the frame of reference of a project.

Q: Please name one challenging project you’ve worked on, and tell us a bit about it.

A: One challenging project I have come across was a custom home in Malibu California that had ornate Terrazzo flooring and wall tile that was completely custom made. It was fun to work with artists and engineers to help estimate a project that was completely original and expensive!

Q: During the lockdown, how did you cope with remote work from home? Was it something new to your company?

A: I coped with remote work by adapting to the circumstance as best I could. Just like estimating take-off software and methods evolve with time, so must the profession in my opinion. It was new but completely seamless, and I am fortunate to work with awesome people who make the work easier and enjoyable.

Q: What are the main software skills a Project Estimator uses on daily basis?

A: On a daily basis, an estimator will use take-off software, accounting software, CRM software, design software, database management software, and mostly spreadsheets.

Q: What are your aspirations and next steps for your career? Where does this path lead?

A: I usually like to take small steps with every new day. At the moment, this entails working remotely but efficiently. I also aspire to grow as an estimator and seek opportunities that allow me to be part of serious projects. This all leads to career growth.
